Ponmudi:

Ponmudi is a small mountain covered by forest located at a distance of about 65 kms from trivandrum. The best way to reach ponmudi is by car or a mini bus. The road that leads to ponmudi is full of lush green vegetation. Almost all the houses in trivandrum have a small garden with some coconut trees and banana trees planted in it. The road that goes above ponmudi is quite narrow and it has 22 hair-pin bends. Its not that easy to drive o that road. Make sure you hire an experienced taxi driver for driving the car. The most interesting fact about ponmudi is that, the vegetation changes as you climb the mountain. All the rainforest trees will begin to disappear after the 15th hair-pin bend. The top of the mountain is covered by grassland and the temperature is 6-10 degree celsius less than it is at the bottom of the hill. The kallar river and falls near the bottom of the hill is an interesting place. The falls is not visible as such and we have to walk through the forest for about 1.5 kms to find the falls. The rope brdge that connects the falls is very slippery and we have to be careful while walking on it.

Trivandrum, also known as thiruvananthapuram is the capital of kerala. Unlike the most other cities in India, trivandrum is much calm and cooler. It receives most of its rainfall during the summer and pre-winter season. So it will nice to visit trivandrum during the winter season. The main attraction at trivandrum is the padmanabhaswamy temple located at east fort, at the center of the city of trivandrum. Trivandrum is known for its beaches. Some of the famous and most liked beaches are kovalam beach(12 kms from east fort), varkala beach(53 kms from east fort), veli beach(9 kms from east fort) and sangumugam beach(4 kms from east fort). The city has a good transport system with buses available to almost all the places in kerala. In fact, the central bus terminus and the central railway station , both located at thampanoor provides an added advantage for people visiting trivandrum. The cost of living at this place is comparatively cheaper than the other cities. Although trivandrum doesn’t have the local train system as in chennai, mumbai, kolkatta and delhi, the government provides a good bus service along with the private bus operators. The only irritating thing about this place is that the shops will open only after 9am and will close by 9:30 pm.
