Sunday, November 30th, 2008GangaKonda Cholapuram is a small village built by the Chola king Rajendra chola in the 11 century AD. It is located at a distance of 35 kms from kumbakonam . The Brihadeshwara Temple located here is a masterpiece of the chola architecture. This temple was built by Rajendra Chola 1and it resembles the Brihadeshwara temple at tanjore which was built by his father. The Tower in this temple is about 55m high and has intricate carvings on it. The whole temple is full of sculptures that depict the dance of lord Shiva who is known as Nataraja, King of dance, here. A museum attached to the temple exhibits the artistic collection from the palace.
